Dear Members

I doubt you will be surprised to hear that it is a tad frustrating that current restrictions do not allow the club to offer greater facilities to members at present, but we are looking at ways to provide a better service to members as circumstances allow.

Hopefully the club bar will be able to open in July, subject to whatever restrictions the Government imposes. Some pubs and clubs are already providing a food & drink takeaway service, but pub beer gardens must remain closed for now and customers are expected to take their purchases away with them. Although that does not appear to be the case with some, who can be seen consuming their purchases in pub gardens and terraces around us. That is their choice, but is not something the club can be seen to encourage at Riverside House under current restrictions. Hopefully that may change soon.

Normally by now the Half Year Review would have been held at the club and reported upon. That couldn’t happen this year for obvious reasons, but a Half Year Report will be issued to members this month. This will include details on the issues the board wishes to bring to the membership and of some changes we may seek the consent of members for at the next AGM. It is hoped that a simple form of response will be incorporated for members to give views electronically. Member views are now more important than ever and I would be grateful if members could please make responses, in order to help the board prepare for the future and whatever the new normal will be.

A Covid Team has been meeting weekly by videoconference, with board meetings also being held the same way. The Membership & Marketing Team are working on plans to improve services to members, both during restrictions and as we gradually move towards a new normal, while a Project Future team is being established to look at longer term needs and objectives. Work progresses on the first floor renovations and we are committed to bringing the club back to as close to normal as soon as the situation permits.

Meanwhile thank you for the welcome support you have been providing to the club. I know this is appreciated, especially with the additional challenges presented by the Coronavirus Pandemic, which has put increased pressure upon our resources.

Keep safe and stay well.
