Battle of Britain Regatta

Battle of Britain Regatta – 2022

After much deliberation the Club has made the decision to cancel this year’s regatta out of respect for our beloved Queen.

This includes the Breakfast Bap service, the Saturday evening Buffet with live Band and the Sunday afternoon BBQ.

Those of you that have paid your entry or paid for meals will be refunded by the Office this week.

Welcome to this year’s Open Invitation Regatta on 17th and 18th September, returning to our established format for the IRC and XOD classes, with three races scheduled for Saturday and two on Sunday, for the cruising sailors we have a timed trial on each day to allow your competitive spirits to flow without the stress of a formal race start!

As is our long-standing practice this regatta is held on the nearest weekend to the 15th September, which is seen as the turning point in the air war with the Luftwaffe, it is to commemorate the role the RAF played in that campaign, to recognise the losses for all and the hope it brought for the future, something for us to reflect on in these current times.

With this year being the Club’s 90th Anniversary the shoreside activities have been expanded to celebrate the event, with a beer festival starting Friday, hot buffet and live music Saturday evening, a Sunday luncheon,  presentation to past Commodores and BBQ for the crews returning from their second day on the water.

Please use the links below to find the online entry form and payment, the catering details, with PDF’s to download of the Event Poster, Notice of Race and Entry Form.

Friday 8th – Sunday 10th September

Welcome to this year’s Open Invitation Regatta with racing on 9th and 10th September, returning to our established format for all classes IRC, Club Class and XOD’s, with three races scheduled for Saturday and two on Sunday, in addition, we welcome this year, Round 3 of the Folkboat Summer Solent Series.

As is our long-standing practice this regatta is held on the nearest weekend, with tides that work, to the 15th September, which is seen as the turning point in the air war with the Luftwaffe, it is to commemorate the role the RAF played in that campaign, to recognise the losses for all and the hope it brought for the future, something for us to reflect on in these current times.

The event opens with a beer festival starting lunchtime on Friday 8th, with Betsy singing 40’s tunes for us while we dine on a 40’s style menu! Saturday will be a hot buffet with live music, Sunday will be a BBQ for all, timed for when the crews return from their second day on the water, leading up to the Prize giving.

A number of other shoreside activities are in planning e.g. ‘various lawn games’  that will be available throughout the weekend – details will be published soon.
