Or ‘How to fit 650 vehicles into 80 spaces’ Clearly the sub-title is tongue in cheek but it does represent our position if every member with a right to park a vehicle turned up on the same day. Last year, following reports of non-member parking and a lack of available spaces, we carried out several checks. In July & August, car park accesses were monitored using the access control system. One anomaly was noted which was followed up and found to be legitimate. Parking was physically monitored each weekend in September from which 10 potential ‘offences’ were highlighted. These may [...]

The Club Spring eSeries is now well under way with 14 competitors racing 3 boats in 3 locations. We are using the Star, FarEast28 and Offshore Racer in Cowes, La Trinite and Palma. In week 4 of the spring eSeries, several groups have appeared. 1st and 2nd places are hotly contested; we have a gap either side of 3rd; then 4th, 5th and 6th could easily shift around. Great racing, an interesting way to spend an hour or so and brush up your racing skills from the comfort of your own armchair. Results are on this link
The third in our series of online talks was on Saturday 20th February at 18.00. Becky Walford from the QHM Portsmouth team gave a talk about the operation of the harbour and the wider Solent. Becky has given us this reminder for small boat movements around the harbour
The second in our series of online talks was on Friday 6th February at 18.00. Club member Mark Orr, with many years of experience in the fuels industry, spoke to some 40 members about the trials and tribulations of keeping usable fuel in boat tanks. A copy of the presentation is available on this link and Mark is happy to take emailed questions from members.
This talk took place on Saturday 16th January, attended by some 80 members on Zoom. We recorded the presentation which can be viewed here, Secrets of the Solent. Emily, one of the presenters from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, provided us with some material reminding us of the content of the talk and setting a challenge! Create a 'yarn bomb' celebrating local sea life, see here for details.

The Club is preparing for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on 25th May 2018. Like all other organisation that hold personal data, we have to review our policies and the data that we have on file. We are seeking help from members who have experience or expertise in this area. This will involve joining a small working group on a task and finish basis. Much of this work will be done by electronic communication. If you think that you can help with this, please email me (HonSec@rafyc.co.uk) prior to Friday 19th January. Many thanks, William. [...]
Success For The Club! 'What a good un!' - I am happy to advise members of the success achieved from the RAFYC stand at the boat show this year. We secured 26 Membership applications, which have already provided the club with 22 confirmed applications, most with Flag Officer Interviews completed. There’s also another application on the way from a local couple who are very keen to join. When you consider that the number of visitors to the boat show appeared fewer this year, the show a bit smaller and with less recorded visitors to our stand, the number of new [...]
