It is with much sadness that we inform you that Cilla, wife of John Mitchell, passed away on Saturday 4th July. The Club wishes to extend their condolences to John and his family at this sad time.
The Government edicts on re-opening everything are being followed by the Commodore, Flag Officers and Board members very closely! We have even been taking a peek at what has happened in Spain, Sweden and Israel, best not to dwell on that one, didn't go according to plan in Tel Aviv. According to Sky News, it didn't end well, so we'll take that as the "How not to do it version"! DINGHY PARK AND STICKERS Back to matters nautical. I have been sleuthing around in the dinghy park, as previously reported, and am not finding that many 2020 stickers. As already [...]
Dear Members I doubt you will be surprised to hear that it is a tad frustrating that current restrictions do not allow the club to offer greater facilities to members at present, but we are looking at ways to provide a better service to members as circumstances allow. Hopefully the club bar will be able to open in July, subject to whatever restrictions the Government imposes. Some pubs and clubs are already providing a food & drink takeaway service, but pub beer gardens must remain closed for now and customers are expected to take their purchases away with them. [...]
We are all aware that there have been changes at the RAFYC in order to permit us / you, the members to get out to and enjoy your boats, though I gather that you still can't stay on them overnight, despite it being discussed during this week. Boringly, I'm afraid that I can kind of see why. The emergency services, Coastguard, RNLI, Hamble Lifeboat, NHS and Ambulance Service had a fairly busy weekend last week, all of which came to the attention of DEFRA! If you Google DEFRA, you will find that they are jolly interested in the environment, parks and [...]
Dear Members Easing out of lockdown has an element of unknown territory about it, with the Government introducing changes at short notice. I am therefore grateful to members who have shown patience and understanding for the measures we have been required to introduce in order to bring the club back into operation. Your appreciation and support is most welcome. Bringing the club back into use involves a fair amount of additional work and planning. The Covid 19 regulations and guidance [...]
Dear Mooring Holders, I promised a final update before Wednesday. We are tonight issuing the following guidance to River Users. From tomorrow, boat owners may return to and use their vessels and dinghies, kayakers, paddle boarders and other River Users may all use the River Hamble and adjacent waters for recreational purposes. Public slipways may be used to access the water within the River. With people able to travel longer distances, it is also timely for owners to visit their craft to ensure that they are seaworthy. Again, from tomorrow, boat owners will be able to leave their moorings and [...]
