Coronavirus Update – Closure of the Club

Closure of the Club   Dear Members, Following the announcement to members on Tuesday, I can advise you of the extent of restrictions which now apply to club closure, in order to comply with government requirements. Regrettably further restrictions are required and these are: There will be no access to Riverside House or the Outboard Store, except for emergency reasons. Membership cards will be restricted to car park entry only. The car park will remain open for emergency access. The launch service, maintenance bays, casual PPYH berthing and use of other club facilities have been withdrawn while government restrictions remain. [...]

2018 RYA Satisfaction Survey

As you may remember, in June the RAFYC participated in a members satisfaction survey sponsored by the RYA. Some 4000 people from 53 clubs across the country took part including 193 from the RAFYC so many thanks to those who took the time to respond. The Members Report and its accompanying notes have been put onto the Club website in the members secure area for you to read and a copy will found in the office. Whilst our result is generally good, we were in the 3rd quartile for overall satisfaction of the clubs surveyed [...]

General Data Protection Regulation – Seeking Input from Members

The Club is preparing for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on 25th May 2018.  Like all other organisation that hold personal data, we have to review our policies and the data that we have on file.  We are seeking help from members who have experience or expertise in this area.  This will involve joining a small working group on a task and finish basis.  Much of this work will be done by electronic communication. If you think that you can help with this, please email me (HonSec@rafyc.co.uk) prior to Friday 19th January. Many thanks, William.   [...]

Success For The Club!

Success For The Club! 'What a good un!' - I am happy to advise members of the success achieved from the RAFYC stand at the boat show this year. We secured 26 Membership applications, which have already provided the club with 22 confirmed applications, most with Flag Officer Interviews completed. There’s also another application on the way from a local couple who are very keen to join. When you consider that the number of visitors to the boat show appeared fewer this year, the show a bit smaller and with less recorded visitors to our stand, the number of new [...]

Beaulieu Rally Report

Beaulieu Rally Report The week leading up to the Beaulieu rally was hot with steady F3-4s. I thought, "this looks set for a fine jaunt to Beaulieu". And so at 1200 on Saturday we followed 'Alisha’ over the start line, past Black Jack to start the timed passage. It's as if the Sailing God's knew. By 1215 it was blowing up to 30 knots, not that we knew this as Wight Magic's anemometer had stopped working. Sadly, timed passage abandoned, we eased our sails and sailed a lively beat to the river mouth. Well done to all who braved the [...]

Folly Rally Report

Folly Rally Report It was a good breezy sailing weekend for the Folly Rally. Of the 27 yachts entered, only three failed to show. Early starters got caught in a short shower but most managed a brisk sail over making it on one tack. The weather stayed fine for the party on the pontoon, which only sank when a crew of heavy weight interlopers came barging through. Great selection of canapes and every one in a jolly mood. The Folly Inn reserved a good area so over 50 of us enjoyed a very sociable evening together, with plenty of hilarity. [...]

Bembridge Rally Report

Bembridge Rally Report Having signed off as Rally Officer, so I thought, RCS then collared me to write up a note about the rally. So, here goes! Welcome to Bembridge! Well, we now know who Gordon is. For those not there, you’ll just have to ask. Barbara and I motored over to Bembridge on Friday. We were berthed where the pontoon had already been precisely marked up for the arrival of our rally the following day. Should this have been a foreboding? The following morning was overcast and not very inviting. Nevertheless, as the tide rose the trickle of boats [...]
